THOMAS1 LORD, SR., HARTFORD FOUNDER (RICHARDA) was born abt. 1585 in England, and died aft. 29 Jan 1643/44 in Hartford, CT. He married DOROTHY BIRD 23 Feb 1610/11 in Towcester, Northampton, England, daughter of ROBERT BIRD. She was baptized 25 May 1588 in Towcester, Northampton, England, and died bef. 12 May 1675 in Hartford, CT (inventory).

Thomas Lord, Sr. of Towcester, Northamptonshire, England emigrated to the Massachusetts Bay Colony in 1635 aboard the ship “Elizabeth & Ann” with his wife and children (except for his son Richard, who had come over two years before), first residing in Cambridge. He removed to Hartford in 1636, where he was a Founder, as were his sons Richard and Thomas, Jr. In the Hartford land inventory of February 1639/40 he held nine parcels: one acre and one rood on which stood his dwelling house with other outhouses, yards or gardens located on the north side of the Little River west of the road from the Palisade to Centinel Hill and immediately east of the house lots of his sons Richard and Thomas; three roods and seventeen perches in the Little Meadow; two acres and three roods of meadow and swamp in the North Meadow; another parcel of meadow and swamp in the North Meadow of nineteen acres and twenty-two perches; three acres and twenty-four perches on the east side of the Great River; nine acres, three roods and twenty-five perches in the Cow Pasture; fifteen acres in the Little Oxpasture; three acres, one rood and thirty-one perches in the Neck of Land; and six acres and eleven perches also in the Neck of Land. Dorothy BIRD and Thomas LORD were married on 23 February 1610 in Towcester, Northampton, England.

Dorothy Bird married THOMAS LORD 23 Feb 1610 in Towchester, England. She (spelled Dorithee Byrde) was baptized in St. Laurence church, Towcester, Northamptonshire, May 25, 1588/9, the daughter of ROBERT & AMY/Amye BIRD of Townchester. Thomas & Dorothy Lord were early settlers of Hartford, Conn.

The will of Dorothy Lord (widow of Thomas) dated Feb. 8, 1669 is in the possession of the Connecticut State Library at Hartford, Conn., and is sealed with a coat of arms and crest, which is the same as that of Laward, aka Lord.

Richard Lord, Jr., son of Richard Lord and grandson of Thomas Lord, was favored by his grandmother, Dorothy Lord, who left him substantial property in her will.

Dorothy's will was probated at Hartford, 14 May 1675 (Hartford Probates, Vol. 3, p. 142), so I don't think she died in 1676. More likely about March 1675.
