Nancy Miracle married Henry Napier on September 4, 1874, in Clay County, Kentucky. In the 1925 Census for Wapello County, Iowa, Nancy stated that her parents were Fred and Mary (Evans) Maricle. On Nancy’s death certificate found in ancestry.com, her father was named as Fredric Miracle. The informant was her husband, Henry Napier.

Obituary From “Ottumwa Courier,” November 5, 1935:

Mrs. Nancy E. Napier, 82, wife of Henry Napier, died at her home in Chillicothe; Monday at 6:20 p.m.

Mrs. Napier was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church for thirty years.

Surviving are her husband, Henry; four sons, Samuel of Chillicothe, James of Seattle, Wash., Gabe of Centralia, Wash., Silas of Rawlings, Wyo.; two daughters Mrs. Lizzie Berg of Hiteman and Mrs. Lucy Butler of Ottumwa.

Short funeral services will be held at the home at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday and at 2 p.m. at the Methodist Episcopal Church at Chillicothe, conducted by the Rev. A. D. McClure of Ottumwa. Burial be made in the Chillicothe cemetery.

She died on 10 July 1972 at the age of 82 in Ottumwa, Wapello County, Iowa, USA. Please Note: Lucy’s obituary, which I have transcribed below, gave her place of birth as the state of Washington. I believe this is incorrect. Lucy Napier married Otis D. Butler on September 19, 1906, in Indianola, Iowa. Her place of birth on that marriage record was Kentucky, and Kentucky was also her place of birth given in all of the census records.

Obituary From “Ottumwa Courier,” July 10, 1972:

Mrs. Lucy Butler, 82, 108 W. Mary, died today at 7:25 a.m. at the Ottumwa Hospital.

She was born Feb. 11, 1890 in the state of Washington [sic], the daughter of Henry and Nancy Napier. She was a member of the East End Pentecostal Church of God.

Surviving are three sons, Henry C., Robert, and Delbert Butler of Dallas, Tex.; two daughters, Mrs. Nancy Eakins of Ottumwa and Mrs. Ada May Davis of Garland, Tex.; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, one brother Gabe Napier of Calif.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Otis, in 1930. She was also preceded in death by one son, one daughter, one brother, and one sister.

The body is at the Johnson Funeral Chapel.

The service for Mrs. Lucy Butler, 82, of 108 W. Mary, who died Monday morning at the Ottumwa Hospital, will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Loyal Kepker of the East End Pentecostal Church of God will officiate. Burial will be in the Chillicothe Cemetery. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
